Founded in 1919, the New York Daily News is one of the most widely read daily newspapers in the United States. The newspaper is known for its bold journalism, commitment to New York City, engaging storytelling and robust digital presence. The newspaper covers breaking news, in-depth investigations, politics, sports, entertainment and culture, and community news. The newspaper has won multiple awards for its writing and visual content and is recognized nationally as an industry leader. The New York Daily News is a division of Tribune Publishing.
The newspaper is also known for its sensational coverage of crime and scandal. The newspaper was the first to use the tabloid format in the United States and is famous for its headlines such as “Crowds Scream as Woman Slashed with Knife,” and “Ford to City: Drop Dead!”
A longtime competitor of the New York Post, a rival tabloid, the Daily News has often been the subject of speculation about the influence of advertising and political parties. In recent years, however, the paper has shifted toward a more moderate-to-liberal bias, often in contrast to the strongly conservative and pro-business New York Post.

Daily News articles are a great resource for high school and college classes. They allow students to practice their research skills, develop an understanding of current events, and examine the way different media outlets report on the same event. These articles can also be used for writing assignments or as source material for historical essays.
